The party starts here

Or should I say, welcome to the bar!

I've has lots of emails saying, "I'm coming but I've never been to an online party before." Well, neither had I until I held an online party to celebrate the launch of my co-authored novel The Lady Soldier last year (read it here if you're interested).

I'd like this party to be bigger and better and it would be great to chat about all kinds of things with people from around the world. So decide the following and introduce yourself here:
  • What are you wearing?
  • What are you drinking?
  • Where are you from?

And as this is an online party and I'm not buying the food and drink, for each person who comes along to the three day party and introduces themselves here I'm going to donate 25p (approx 50 US cents) to my chosen charity: SOS Children's Villages. I'll pledge this daily over the three days so you can see the tally here at Just Giving. Additionally I'm donating all my royalties from sales in April of my first ebook Fateful Deception.

So please introduce yourself here... and then get stuck into the chatter and fun of the party.

Hello I'm Michelle Styles and I had the great pleasure of working with Kate as her critque partner on both A Fateful Deception and Perfidy and Perfection.
I am very pleased that both books have published.
As we are supposed to say what we are wearing -- I am wearing a Little Black Dress and drinking champagne.

I'm at work so I'm wearing office clothes, drinking coffee and keeping a weather eye out for the boss. Hope to come back later!

Hi!

About time I turned up at my own party I guess. :)

As my sister borrowed my black Armarni dress (in my dreams) I'm wearing instead a retro-chic red and orange dress and am certainly drinking champagne.

Hi Kate, I'm Nell Dixon and have the pleasure of claiming Kate and Michelle as writing friends and fellow RNA members. I just got showered so I'm in P.J's and drinking coffee.

I am wearing pyjamas and seeing as it is the Regency a night cap (so I suppose the pyjamas would be a long night gown - but as it is the morning I do not need a candle). Kate is a creative whirlwind whose imagination lives, eats and breathes the Regency. I learnt so much from her workshop on writing Romantic fiction this Wednesday at Egham Library. So lets raise a glass of something Regency to Perfidy and Perfection. Off now to put some more logs on the fire (or should it be coal as it is the Regency? Not really romantic though). P.S. I am the lucky man who is going to marry my heroine, a certain Kate Allan.

Hi Everyone - I'm wearing a magic black dress that gives me a waist and Tiffany pearls. Well, I'm actually at work, but we can all dream. Kate, I thought the cover of Fateful deception was just lovely! best Louise

Hi Kate, hello everyone, I’m just popping in to say congratulations and thanks for the invite - particularly forgiving of Kate in view of my recent cheeky crits on the Verulam Writers’ Circle virtual manuscript evening. She is a very nice person.

What am I wearing? * PPPs are all I can afford this year dahlings, but my cash position is very trendy – Overdraft bigger than the Latvian national debt.

Drink? Make it a pint of Adnam’s for me please, in a ‘jug’ if you don’t mind. Why not a bog-standard glass? Well, Kate and other friends at VWC, who know my writing and me, may realise I find it difficult to keep a grip on my beer and on reality. A good handle seems to help in both cases. And OHWS does take some beating on that score, doesn’t it? I mean to say; you’ve got to laugh, haven’t you?

Sorry, was that your toe I stepped on? I’m afraid I haven’t eaten yet and this virtual beer’s going straight to my… Now I seem to have slopped it down your cleavage. Hang on. I’m sure I’ve got a virtual Kleenex here somewhere. I do apologise, that was quite unintentional. No! Really! Calling security will be unnecessary, I was about to leave anyway; my tag is bleeping.

I was simply having difficulty with the difference between fantasy and fantasising, virtual virtue is a difficult concept for me. Okay, yes, I do have some problems with the real thing, but that’s another story altogether.

Perhaps we could talk later?

Oh!

Goodbye, then.

Hello Kate

congratulations on the launch.

I am sporting a T-shirt with the image of one of those old orange Penguin paperbacks on it: Kinsley Amis, ONE FAT ENGLISHMAN.

Unfortunately I am working, so it's just coffee. It will be interesting to read your posts later on this evening. By rights, you should be drunk by around 7pm, and sick by 9.30.

I'm off to teach now, but will return...

best wishes, John

Hi Kate,
Not sure if the party is still on. Did I miss out agina? - The story of my life!
Anyway, it's late here in Western Australia and I have already had my couple of glasses of red so am sitting at the computer with an empty coffee cup.
Wearing - well, not a lot, but its near bed time, and who cares anyway.
All the best with the book release - may it be as successful, if not more so than your previous.
Regards,
From down under,

Hi Kate;
It's Christopher (C.W.) Gortner from San Francisco. Congratulations on the book! It's a great way to do a book launch and have all your international friends attend. (Kate just helped me edit an article for the upcoming issue of HNS's "Solander.")

I'm wearing black slacks and a white shirt; I'm drinking Perrier with a dash of Cranberry juice and craving (as I always do at parties) a cigarette (I quit 3 years ago.)

Again, congratulations. I'm so looking forward to reading the book. Enjoy!

Hiya!! :) Arguably, this is my first online party too, at least that I can remember after just getting up. . . LOL :)

What are you wearing? The same Tweety sweatshirt that I wear everyday around the house. LOL

What are you drinking? Nothing at the moment, but will be headed for my water soon.

Where are you from? A very rainy, but we still need it, New Jersey. :)

Oh, no, late as usual! I'm wearing a fab dress by Ian Stuart (will post a link if I can find one) and drinking a champagne cocktail. I'm in Cheshire, England, where, for once, it's sunny.

Congrats on Perfidy and Perfection, Kate. May it go to a reprinting.

I was going to wear this

but I decided it was a bit over the top, so I settled for Wedgewood, on this page:

because it's far less OTT vbg

Oh... I'm too late! Typical. I get myself all togged up in my best frock and here I am, all dressed up with nowhere to go!

I can see Kate's still got some clearing up to do (you must've been an untidy lot - there are vol-au-vont crumbs and empty glasses all over the show) so I'm guessing she'll be back. Maybe she'll still donate 25p even though I was late.

I've never been to an online book-launch party before so you'll have to excuse me if I don't follow proper etiquette. What I do know is that congratulations are in order for the success with Perfidy and Perfection and I hope the bunch of virtual flowers I've brought along won't wilt before our hostess gets them home.

Well, that's all from me but before I go I'll answer the questions Kate asked.

Wearing: a slinky silver dress, and black strappy sandals with diamante bits. I've been waiting for an excuse to get this dress out of the wardrobe for ages!

Drinking: Vodka and bitter lemon with ice and a slice, please.

~Sharon J

PS: Kate. If you have a link where it's possible to donate to your charity, can you post it and I'll make a donation as a way of apologising for my lateness. If not, I'll donate to something else.

Congratulations Kate! I'm late too, I'm afraid, but thank you so much for inviting me!

I will toast your success with a glass of white wine soon and wear a pretty outfit. I love to read about the Regency so I'm looking forward to your book!

Best Regards,

Lisa

Looks like I'm a little late too, are there any eats left?

Sorry, I didn't realise you were supposed to dress up although at least I do have clothes on... *Moves away from oscar ws*

Good luck with P&P Kate!

Hi Kate,
Congratulations on the publication. Let's hope there's more to come.
Sorry about my clothes (they were fine for cycling in York); I only heard about the party a few minutes ago and came straight round. I'm not known for day-glo jackets. If there's a bathroom I could clean myself up a little.
Or I could go straight for the drinks. Oh, anything in a glass'll do.
Don't worry about nibbles, the drink'll be great.
Gimme.

GUINESS (or even Adnams?) RECORD

I hereby claim the record as the first person ever to have been forcibly ejected from a virtual book launch. Hurrah!

Shame on you, young Andrew P! You’d better change your contact lenses. If you check above, you’ll find I was quite properly – albeit cheaply – dressed at all times in my PPP (Primark posing as Prada).

You may of course be confusing me with a certain infamous namesake, whose literary talents all must acknowledge, but whose personal proclivities were diametrically opposed to my own. To put that another way, you’re quite safe mate. :-)

Well done, Kate, I’ve never been thrown out of a nicer party.

Cheers again

Oscar
